METHANE – CH4

Methane (CH4) is the simplest representative from the alkane group, in ambient conditions it is a colorless, odorless and flammable gas. Methane (having a global warming potential GWP20 ~ 85) is the second most important greenhouse gas behind CO2. Over the past 35 years the global atmospheric concentration of methane has increased by around 250 ppb to almost 1.900 ppb today.

Today, around 60 % of global methane emissions are anthropogenic (fossil fuels, animal agriculture, landfills, biomass production, rice production as main contributors) and around 40 % are emitted from natural sources (wetlands, seepages, volcanic gases, melting permafrost, …).

Because of its tremendous impact on the climate change, CH4 is one of the most important gases whenever it comes to greenhouse gas research and reduction of emissions. GASERA offers analyzers for reliable measurement of methane, either with LASER-PAS (GASERA ONE GHG) or with NDIR-PAS (GASERA ONE PULSE).
