Sulfur hexafluoride SF6 is a colorless, odorless, non-flammable and non-toxic gas. SF6 is the most potent greenhouse gas with a GWP of 22.800. Because of its perfect insulation properties SF6 is still used as insulator and arc suppressant in electrical switchgear (GIS gas insulated switchgear, circuit breakers, insulators and other electrical equipment in HV/MV transmission and distribution). Approximately 80 % of today’s manufactured SF6 gas is used in the electrical power industry.
Power Industry has committed itself to reduce SF6 emissions as far as possible. Besides the goal to avoid SF6 handling losses it is important that leak rates are kept at very low levels.
GASERA monitors are used for the quantification of leak rates, monitoring of rooms and systems, as well as for classical tracer gas investigations, for example related to building physics / HVAC systems.
